How to Share Your Mission and Values in Two Minutes or Less

Here’s a pop quiz. How many people on your team can recite your organization’s mission statement? What percentage could name your values off the top of their head?

If you are like most organizations, the answer is probably pretty low. Often times, your mission and values are mentioned during onboarding and stamped somewhere on your website. Maybe they are lightly referenced during meetings or featured on your company’s boilerplate “About Us” blurb. Most likely, they are not getting the airtime they deserve – and therefore, not making an impression on your team.

If you are reading this, you probably know how important your mission and values are. They impact what you do everyday, explain why your organization does what it does, and sheds light on what makes your work meaningful. But how do you convey this information to a reluctant team?

You aren’t going to be able to ensure instant buy-in from your team overnight: getting people to learn and own your mission and values takes time, repetition, and real-life demonstration (aka “walking the walk”). However, you can make things easier on yourself by investing in effective tools that quickly deliver your mission and values in a way that doesn’t make your teams’ eyes glaze over.

We’ve worked with dozens of organizations to create thoughtful animated videos that present their mission and values quickly, in a way that’s engaging and fun. Using animation to train staff on mission and values has many benefits, such as:

  • Speed: Animations deliver information quickly and effectively, saving you and your staff time.
  • Visuals: Videos present information with the help of visual cues. This helps people make lasting connections and keeps them engaged in the content.
  • Tells a Story: An animated video allows you to get to the heart of your message, create emotional connections using audio, visual and narrative elements, and make a lasting impression on your audience.

Animated video alone won’t guarantee automatic retention and buy-in. But as a tool in your toolkit, it can help you cultivate ownership over your Mission and Values; which is essential for the success and satisfaction of your team. In two minutes or less, you’ll make a big impression on your team.
